SOLUTION :

Given : 3x² + 13x + 14 = 0 , x = - 2 is a solution

Equation is of the form p(x) = 0 , where

p(x) =  3x² + 13x + 14 ……………(1)

On putting x = - 2 in eq 1,

p(- 2)  = 3( -2)²  + 13(- 2) + 14

= 3 × 4 - 26 + 14

= 12 - 26 + 14

= - 14  + 14

= 0

p(- 2) = 0

Hence, x = - 2 is a solution of the given equation.

3 \times - 2 ^{2} + 13 \times - 2 + 14 \\ = 3 \times 4 + - 26 + 14 \\ = 12 + - 26 + 14 \\ = 26 - 26 \\ = 0
