Hi ,

Let p( y ) = y^20 - 1

And f( y ) = y^21 - 1 ,

If p ( 1 ) = 0 , f ( 1 ) = 0 then ( y - 1 ) is a

factor of p ( 1 ) and f ( 1 ) ,

1 ) p ( 1 ) = ( 1 ) ^20 - 1

= 1 - 1 = 0

2 ) f ( 1 ) = ( 1 )^21 - 1

= 1 - 1

= 0

Therefore ,

y - 1 is a factor of p ( y ) and f( y ).

I hope this helps you.
