Formation of oxygen molecule, O2: Oxygen atom has six electrons in its outermost shell, two short of forming a complete octet. Thus each oxygen atom in O2 shares 2 electrons with the other oxygen atom and attains stable configuration.

Electron configuration of N:2,5

Each N atom contributes 3 electrons for sharing.

A triple bond is formed between the two nitrogen atoms.

It required high enthalpy of formation.

Methane is a compound containing two elements, carbon and hydrogen. It exists naturally as a molecule. Each methane molecule has a central carbon atom joined to and surrounded by four hydrogen atoms. The chemical formula of methane is CH₄.The shape of methane is tetrahedral. It is sp3

hybridised. The carbon atom is at the centre of a tetrahedron. Each hydrogen is at one of the corners of the tetrahedron.
