The molecules are continually colliding with each other and with the walls of the container. When a molecule collides with the wall, they exert small force on the wall The pressure exerted by the gas is due to the sum of all these collision forces. The more particles that hit the walls, the higher thepressure.

this can be proved experimentally
take a glass test tube and make a hole in it attach a glass tube to it now pour some water in it you will see that water is coming out from the glass tube this shows that gas exerts pressure on the walls of the container you can attach a balloon through the glass tube and observe that water is filling in the balloon hope this helps you!!!
