The relation between the biotic and abiotic components of the environment.
- The abiotic substances supply nutrients to the producers.
- The producers prepare food for the consumers.
- Both producers and the consumers, after death are broken down into simpler substances by the decomposers.
- The nutrients and the minerals are replenished in the soil (air, water also).
- The nutrients and the minerals are again used by the producers and the whole cycle is repeated continuously.
- This cycling of materials through biotic and abiotic components is called the mineral cycle.
