Shreya has 7 vases of flower . Some vases have 5 yellow roses and the other have 10 pink carnation . There are 50 flower in all in the vases . How many vases of each type of flower does sonika have ?

thus, total no. of yellow flowers in x vases = 5x

now, total no. of pink carnations = 50 - 5x
 
but also, no. of vases of pink carnations = 7 - x
thus total no. of pink carnations = 10 * (7 - x) 

thus  50 - 5x = 10(7 - x) 
         10 - x    =  2(7 -x)
           10-x   = 14 -2x
            x=4 
       7-x =3
