Biology, asked by narayana2789, 5 months ago

Shreyansh was taken to the biology lab where his teacher told the features and differences of plant and animal cells. They were told that plant cells were almost had dead cells whereas animal cells havemost of the component living in the cell. Shreyansh want to know if these characters show any advantage.

a) Does this character show any advantage to the plants and animals? If yes, what are they?
b) List the cell organelles that are present in the animal cell and absent in plant cell
c) Plasma membrane is made up of which two components?
d) Name two structures found in plant cells but not in animal cells

Answer:

plants are usually confined to a particular area throughout life and do not show locomotion at all and there abundance in dead tissues, support there body structure and help withstand strong winds. They have a vascular bundle that is _

- phloem and xylem. animal cells usually have living cells because animals need more energy in compare to plants, this energy come from cellular respiration which occurs both in plants and animals. however as plants can perform photosynthesis, they require less energy but more supportive tissues.

b) in animal cells plastids are absent and in plant cells it is present

  • plant cells have rectangular shape cells but animal cells have usually sperical and oval shaped cells
  • cell wall is present in plant cells that is made up of cellulose but cell walls are not present in animal cells
  • in plant cells large vacuoles to store amino acids , water etc are present but usually vacuoles are absent in animal cells. However animals like amoeba do have vacuoles but is small
  • plant cells do not have centrosome and centrioles but animal cells have it
  • animal cells have a single highly complex Golgi apparatus whereas plant cells have similar units of Golgi apparatus called dictyosomes
  • c) plasma membrane is made up phospholipid bilayer that is 75 percent of the plasma membrane is made up of phospholipid . it is made up of proteins too that is of two types - extrinsic and intrinsic proteins
  • d) cell wall and plastids

Answer:

(a)Yes, plants do not have to locomote in search of food as they are autotrophs and so do not need much energy. But the dead cells present in plants provide rigidity to the structure. On the other hand animals need energy for locomotion and other cellular functions.

(b) The cell organelles present in animal cell but absent in plant cell are Lysosomes and Centriole.

(c) Plasma membrane is made up of lipids and proteins.

(d) Plant cells have a cell wall, chloroplasts and other specialized plastids, and a large central vacuole, which are not found within animal cells. The cell wall is a rigid covering that protects the cell, provides structural support, and gives shape to the cell.
