When questioned on whether there is a rule which states that two people cannot be given this award, Shorte said, “There is a such a rule but there is also another clause, which states that the government is the final deciding authority. This decision has been approved by the Chief Minister and the Minister of Sports.”

The award is given by the Maharashtra government for various sports to the sportsmen with commendable or excellent achievements in their fields.
