Shyam and Ram rubbed the leaf of a potted plant with an oily cloth to give them a glossy look.The plant died after few days. What could be the reason?

The oil gummed up the stomata of the leaves, preventing gas exchange.
That means:
no oxygen in or out
no carbon dioxide in or out
no water out -- so no transpiration -- so no photosynthesis after the stored reserve is used up.
