Shyam and Vyom walk up an escalator (moving stairway). The escalator moves at a constant speed, Shyam takes three steps for every two of Vyom’s steps. Shyam gets to the top of the escalator after having taken 25 steps. While Vyom (because his slower pace lets the escalator do a little more of the work) takes only 20 steps to reach the top. If the escalator were turned off, how many steps would shyam have to take to walk up?

Answer:

Shayam has to take 50 Steps

Step-by-step explanation:

Vyom takes only 20 steps to reach the top

Let say Lift take = L steps

so total Steps = 20 + L  Step

While Shayam takes 25 Step

Which is Equiavent to  Vyom's (25 * 2/3) = 50 / 3 Steps

in 20 Steps of Vyom Lift takes L steps

=> in 50/3 Steps of Vyom Lift will take  = (L/20) * (50/3)  = 5L/6 Steps

25 + 5L/6  = 20 + L

=> 5 = L/6

=> L = 30

So total Steps = 20 + 30 = 50 Steps

=> Shayam has to take 50 Steps
