Shylock is a Jewish moneylender,he is reffered to as a cruel,greedy and merciless moneylender. His character is clearly noticeable when he asks Antonio to sign a bond which says,if he does not repay the loan before the date of expiry,a pound of flesh will be cut off his body and when her daughter runs away with his jewels,he cares more about the money and jewels than of her daughter Jessica.

Bassanio is reffered as a spendthrift. He is a prince but has spent all his wealth in luxury and now depends on Antonio,a Venetian merchant for finances. He is also the best friend of Antonio and he proves to be a true best friend when he is ready to pay any cost for Antonio's freed from the bond.He is a character used for romanticism by Shakespeare in this play. When he chooses the right casket of lead,shows his deep thinking and also that he is not attracted just by outward looks.
