- Shylock is “too large” for the play? Discuss. (His character has more depth than the protagonist of the play)

Answer:
shylock is considered as the villain in the play because of his vicious plots against Antonio.but, actually he is better to the Christian's as he has been victimized several times by the Christian society. he only plots these cruel schemes against Antonio because antonio treated shylock badly, spat on his holy garbs(clothes), called him a cut throat dog, criticized and degraded him in the open market. shylock is also taking revenge of the way all the other Christians treat all the Jews and swears on god that he will not leave any chance of taking revenge on the christians and the surprising fact is that shylock claims that christians taught the Jews about revenge. so,we can say that... shylock is maybe "too large" for the play as he is a complicated character.
