Hello!

Here is the answer for your question!

Question: Sides of a cube are doubled.in what ratio will the surface area          increased?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer:-

  • Let the side of the cube before doubling be 'a'

Total surface area of the cube = 6a²

  • (Doubling the side of the cube)  side = 2a

Total surface area of cube with side doubled = 6 × (2a)²

                                                                             =  6 × 4 × a²

                                                                             = 24a²

  • ratio of surface areas before and after doubling side :-

                                      6a² : 24a²

                                  =      6 : 24

                                  =       1 : 4

∴ When the sides of cube are doubled the surface area increases by 4 times the original surface area

Hope this helped you with your doubt :)
