Sides of a triangle are in the ratio of 12:17:25 and its perimeter is 540 cm.
Find its area.

Let the sides be 12x,17x and 25x.

We have 12x+17x+25x=540⇒54x=540⇒x=10

Therefore, sides are 120cm,170cm and 250cm.

Also, semiperimeter, s=5402=270cm

Applying Heron's formula, we obtain

Area of the triangle

=270(270−120)(270−170)(270−250)−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−√=270×150×100×20−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−√=9×30×30×5×100×2×10−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−√=3×30×10×10=9000cm2
