let the ∆ be ABC

so, by pythagoras theorem,

let AC be the hypotenuse and AB and BC are two sides of a right angled ∆

Now,

AC^2=AB^2+BC^2

AC^2=16^2+8^2

AC^2=256+64

AC=√(320)

AC=17.88cm

=17.9cm
