Double fertilisation give rise to an endosperm that provides nourishment to the embryo. It increases the viability of the seeds of angiosperms. It utilizes the both male gamete produced by the pollen grains.

Significance of Fertilization are as follows:-

1. In the contact of sperm second maturation is completed by secondary oocyte.

2. Amphimixis process help in the formation of a diploid zygote which restores the normal diploid number of the chromosomes.

3. The centriole of sperm alter entering into egg mduces the egg to undergo cleavage.

4. Through process of fertilization characters are transmitted into offsprings from paternal and maternal both.

5. The peripheral changes which happens in the egg prevention, is the further entry of sperm into the ovum, and thus checking polyspermy.
