Answer:significance of mitosis:-

It helps in maintaining the same number of chromosomes in daughter cells after division. It is responsible for growth and development of multicellular organisms. It helps in repairing of damaged tissues. It helps the cell to maintain proper size.

significance of meiosis:-

Meiosis is responsible for the formation of sex cells or gametes

Answer in my own words:

1. Mitosis

  • It occurs in somatic or vegetative cells of the body of the organism
  • Mitosis goes under Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase
  • Two daughter cells (a diploid) are formed as the end result of mitosis
  • The number of chromosomes remain the same in daughter cells as found in the mother cell
  • It is useful in cellular reproduction in your body

2. Meiosis

  • It occurs in germ or sex cells of the body of the organism
  • Meiosis goes under Mitosis-I and Mitosis-II
  • Four daughter cells (a haploid) are formed as the end result of meiosis
  • The number of chromosomes are halved in daughter cells when compared to the mother cell (this helps the gametes formed as a result of meiosis fuse to form a zygote with equal chromosomes from both parents).
  • It is useful in sexual reproduction by forming sex cells
