Mother's day was founded by Anna Jarvis, who cared for wounded soldiers in battles. She wanted the government of the US to proclaim a holiday in honour of mothers.

Coming to why it is important, I think it's kind of self explanatory. It is a day to celebrate the hard working and selfless mothers of our society who go beyond their means to give the best of the best to their families.

It is a widely popular holiday in the Western World where most children live individually and see their mothers only a couple of times a year.

In countries like India, where we are entitled to stay with our parents for years and years together honour Mother's day by listening to our mothers for once when they say “jaao chaniya le aao” (Get corriander- you'll get this joke in you're an Indian).

We all love our Mothers and honestly, if we need a Mothers Day to tell them we love them, do we really love them now?
