Significance of ozone layer in points

The Ozone layer serves two main purposes.  First it absorbs some of the higher energy UV rays from the sun in the same way a cloud absorbs and reflect some of the visible light.  The parts of the UV light absorbed or reflected is very harsh on the eyes and skin of humans and many other animals and can cause very bad sunburns and promote the formation of cataracts in the lens of the eye which makes you nearly blind without modern medical treatment.

The second thing the ozone layer does is to act as a greenhouse gas.  When manmade chemicals damaged the ozone layer over the south pole the temperatures took a very noticeable drop on scientific instruments which have been tracking daily temperatures there since the 1950’s.  Over most of the Earths surface the sunlight causes new Ozone to form high in the stratosphere at the same rate chemicals in the air break it down into normal oxygen molecules.  At the poles and in the Arctic/Antarctic circles however the sun sets for up to six months out of the year so there is no sunlight making new ozone all of the long dark winter months.

hope it helps!!
