What is the relevance of socialism and secularism in the Indian Constitution?

What are the variants of current accounts offered by SBI?

The Preamble

It is basically preface of our constitution.

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN, SOCIALIST,SECULAR,DEMOCRATIC,REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:

JUSTICE, social, economic and political;

LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;

EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all

FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

In our constituent assembly on this 26th day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

As per the constitution act 1976(42nd amendment) three new words were added socialist, secular and integrity to our preamble.

Let me explain both terms :—

SECULARISM

It is the principle that reject the religion ethics.

As per our constitution:—

India is neutral in religious matters and treat all religions impartially. Our constitution ensures that the state does not have any religion of its own.

INDIA IS NEITHER RELIGIOUS, NOR IRRELIGIOUS, NOR ANTI RELIGIOUS, BUT IS ONLY NON-RELIGIOUS.

The main ideal of secularism in india context implies that our country is not guided by any religion or any religious considerations.

SOCIALISM

It is an economic theory in which the means of production, distribution, and exchange are owned by the government.

By the word socialism the constitution means the achievement of socialistic ends through democratic means. It basically aims to end poverty, ignorance, diseases and inequality of opportunity.

Socialist state basically means that wealth is generated socially and should be shared equally by society through distributive justice. It shall not be concentrated in the hands of few.
