Vital Capacity

Definition :

Vital capacity is basically a maximum amount of air which can be exhaled by a person after breathing for a long period of time.

Importance / Significance :

It helps us to detect the lung related diseases. If a person is suffering from or facing a, lung disease then his / her vital capacity is seen to be decreased as comparison to others. Therefore it helps in determining lung's health.

Vital capacity is basically important for / it's main significance is to -

maintaining oxygen level in our body.

it helps in exchange of gasses between our surrounding and our tissues.

Vital capacity is very helpful for a athlete in sports. as we know that, if our vital capacity increases, energy production also get increased. So, in this way it helps a athlete to perform well.

It can be measured by using a spirometer.
