Answer:

Silence is a silent way of revolt within to fight against all pains. In the story, 'The Portrait of a Lady,'  the author's grandmother suffers the pain of separation from her grandson, but she silently bears the pain and doesn't show it. Later, that silence itself helps her cope up with her loss and diverts her mind to other activities, like feeding birds. This clearly shows that silence is a powerful method of revolt to subside inner pains and agonies. Silence instills a sense of peace and composure in the soul and cools the brain. It provides room for other positive thoughts that can be instrumental for one to rehabilitate from negative thoughts.
