Silk is a poor conductor of heat. It is very sensitive to heat and it decomposes at 165 degree Celsius (330 degree Fahrenheit).

It has to be ironed with wet plates because of this characteristic. It is a protein fiber, similar to wool.

Heat deteriorates its quality, weakens and causes staining in the fabrics made from it.
