Answer:

Even though Silver is a better conductor of electricity, copper wire is used as conduction in electricity because it has greater capacity for electrical conductivity as well as mechanical strength. It also has a high thermal coefficient of expansion.

Answer

Silver is a better conductor of electricity than copper as silver has more free electron present. But even after this, copper is used for making wires because silver is more expensive that copper. Using silver to make wires will involve lot of expenditure. Thus, copper is preferred.

More to know

  • To make it less corrosive, silver plating is done over copper as silver is less reactive that copper
  • Copper is more ductile that silver which again favors in using it for making wires
  • It is also thermal resistant.
