Bcoz from petroleum refinery, Sulphur products are released, and, silver reacts with and gets tarnished.

Let me give you another interesting example.

When we have worn silver necklaces for a long time then the skin below the necklace turns blackish because of the tarnishing of silver and formation of AgS which is blackish.

But the same thing does not happen with gold because gold is a noble metal it does not react easily with Sulphur.
