silver is a highly unreactive metal so it does not react with oxygen of a really but silver jewellery tarnishes because of the extent of hydrogen sulphide gas which is present in the air
silver reacts with the hydrogen sulphide gas to form a thin layer on its surface to form silver sulphide which is black in colour

This is because when silver is exposed to air, it reacts with sulphur compounds in the air. It is this reaction with sulphur compounds in the air that cause the silver to tarnish and not the reaction with oxygen
