silver nitrate reacts with sodium chloride to form sodium nitrate and silver chloride according to the reaction : silver nitrate + sodium chloride----silver chloride+sodium nitrate. it is found that 3.4 g of silver nitrate combines with 1.5 g of sodium chloride and 2.8 g of silver chloride is precipitated. calculate the mass of sodium nitrate formed. also state the law of chemical combination used

The law of chemical combination used is 'LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MASS'. It states that the sum of masses of reactants is equal to sum of masses of products for any reaction.

As 3.4g of silver nitrate reacts with 1.5g of sodium chloride, the sum of masses is 3.4 + 1.5 = 4.9g

Thus, mass of sodium nitrate = Sum of masses - Mass of silver chloride

                                                = 4.9 - 2.8 = 2.1 g

Hence, mass of sodium nitrate is 2.1 grams, by LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MASS

3.4+1.5=4.9

4.9-2.8=2.1

2.1 g is the mass of sodium nitrate in the reaction

“Mass can neither be created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction”
