Metal X is Magnesium (Mg)

upon ignition, Magnesium burns to form a white powder which is Magnesium oxide

2Mg+O2→2MgO

Powder Y is Magnesium oxide

When water is added to Magnesium oxide, it forms Magnesium hydroxide Mg(OH)2 which is used as an antacid to relieve indigestion

Substance Z is Magnesium hydroxide.

MgO + H2O → Mg(OH)2
