If one number is decreased by 20% and another number is increased by 20% then they becomes equal.

Let's say that, one number is x

And another number is y

According to the question,

⇒ x + y = 1200 . . . . .(i)

Now,

x is decreased by 20%

= x - (20% of x)

= 4x/5

And also, ‘y’ is increased by 20%

= y + (20% of y)

= 6y/5

Again, according to the question,

⇒ 4x/5 = 6y/5

⇒ 4x = 6y

⇒ x = 6y/4 . . . . . .(ii)

Substituting the value of eq.(ii) in eq.(i) :-

⇒ x + y = 1200

⇒ 6y/4 + y = 1200

⇒ 10y/4 = 1200

⇒ 10y = 1200*4

⇒ y = 1200*4/10

⇒ y = 480

Substitute the value of ‘y’ in eq.(ii) :-

⇒ x = 6y/4

⇒ x = 6*480/4

⇒ x = 6*120

⇒ x = 720
