Multiply (ii) with 3 & (i) with 2: We get
6x - 8y = 60 ___(iii)
6x - 21y = 99 ___(iv)
Subtracting (iii) from (iv): We get
13y = 39
y = 3
Putting the value of y = 3 in (i)
3x - 4y = 30
⇒ 3x - 4(3) = 30
⇒ 3x - 12 = 30
⇒ 3x = 18
⇒ x = 6
