Similar to electron diffraction, neutron diffraction microscope is also used for the determination of the structure of molecules. If the wavelength used here is 800 pm, calculate the characteristic velocity associated with the neutron.

When the mass of the neutron is 1.675 x10-27 kg

We know that λ = h/mv (let it be 1)

and

v = h/mλ (let it be 2)

on Substituting of both 1 and 2, we get the following

6.626x10-34 / (1.675x10-27)(800x10-12)

= 4.94x104 m/sec.


Hence,= 4.94x104 m/sec is the characteristic velocity associated with the neutron.
