Similarities and differences between cholas temple and present temple
Answers
Answer:
Let's take an example of the three most famous temples built during the Chola period, in the 11th and 12th century - the Airavateswara temple in Darasuram, the Brihadeswara temple at Gangaikondacholiswaram and the Brihadeswara temple at Tanjore; and compare it to a present day temple, say the Akshar Dham temple of New Delhi.
The temples of the Chola period had a vimana as one of the main buildings of the temple, while present day temples don't always follow this. The temples of the Chola period also had the images and status of the Kind placed prominently across the temple, which also does not happen in present day temples.
However, the idol of the God is placed in the central garbha-griha in both the temples of the Chola period, as well as present day temples. Miniature images of gods and goddesses are carved into the walls of temples of Chola period as well as present day temples.
