Inductive effect and mesomeric effect are two types of electronic effects in polyatomic molecules. However, inductive effect and mesomeric effect arise due to two different factors. For example, inductive effect is a result of the polarization of σ bonds and mesomeric effect is a result of the substituents or functional groups in a chemical compound. Both mesomeric and inductive effect can exist in some complex molecules.
