Awadh, Bengal and Hyderabad had rich resources and the British wanted to annex these states.

1. Awadh was annexed and Nawab Wazid Ali Shah was dethroned on grounds that Awadh was not administered well.

2. Bengal....Bengal was the root cause of Indian Nationalism...hence Lord Curzon partitioned Bengal in 1905 to strike at the roots of Bengali nationalism.

3. In Hyderabad, the Nizam remained Loyal to the British and he was a traitor to his own country...hence Hyderabad was a Princely state which was being administered on advice of the British.
