What are difference between ascomycetes and deuteromycetes?

ASCOMYCETES:

Common name- Sac fungi.

Mycellium- Septate, branched.

Cell wall composition— Chitin.

Asexual spore- Conidia.

Sexual reproduction— Gametangial contact, Gametangial copulation, Spermatization, Somatogamy.

Fruiting body- Ascocrap.

Sexual spore- Dikaryon stage is found and distribution of dikaryon takes place by the help of crozier formation.

Examples- Peziza, Claviceps, Penicillium.

DEUTEROMYCETES:

Common name- Fungi Imperpecti.

Mycellium- Septate and branched.

Asexual reproduction— through conidia.

They can be saprotrophs, parasites and mainly decomposers.

Cell wall- Chitin.

Perfect stage or Sexual stage absent.

Examples— Alternaria ( Early blight of potato ), Colletorichum, Trichoderma.

1. Deuteromycetes (Fungi Imperfecti)

In these fungi only asexual method of reproduction by means of conidia has been observed. Perfect or sexual stages are absent. Hence they are grouped under an artificial group called fungi imperfecti.

Mycelium: Branched, septate mycelium

Asexual reproduction: Conidia

Sexual Reproduction: Absent or not known

Fruiting body: Absent

Examples: Fusarium, Collectotrichum, Pyricularia, Cercospora

2. Ascomycetes (Sac Fungi)

Mycelium: branched and Septate

Asexual reproduction: Budding, Conidiospores or Conidia

Sexual Reproduction: Fusion of compatible nuclei. Ascospores formed in ascus. A linear, cylindrical, eight-spored ascus of Sordaria fimicola

Fruiting body: Ascocarp (Cleistothecium, perithecium, apothecium)

Examples: Yeast, Penicillium, Neurospora, cup fungi, edible morels

ASCOMYCETES

They are called as SAC FUNGI.

The mycelium consists of septate hyphae.

They are saprophytic ,decomposers ,parasitic or coprophilous.

The septa consists of septal pores.

Motile structure do not occur in life cycle.

Asexual reproduction is through CONIDIA.

Dikaryon phase is shorter in life.

Ascospores develop inside ascus.

Example:Penicillium,Morels,Truffles,Neurospora

DEUTEROMYCETES

only asexual phase is known no sexual phase is known.

They are commonly called IMPERFECT FUNGI.

They reproduce by Conidia

The mycelium is septate and branched.

They are basically parasites and decomposers of litter and help in mineral cycling.

Example:Alternaria,Colletotrichum,Trichoderma.

Deuteromycetes  and Basidiomycota

Explanation:

Deuteromycetes

  • Deuteromycetes is also known as the imperfect fungi which is not produced asexual reproduction
  • The imperfect fungi of somatic body described by the creation of septate mycelium, expanded hyphae and asexual life cycle

Basidiomycota

  • It is a filamentous parasites made by out of hyphae(with the exception of basidiomycota-yeast) and repeat explicitly by means of the development of specific club-molded end cells considered basidia that typically bear outer meiospores (generally four). These specific spores are called basidiospores
