Both Gandhiji and Nelson Mandela were born in politically influenced families. Father and Grandfather of Gandhiji were dewan of Porbandar. Whereas great grandfather of Mandela was ruler of Thembu people in South Africa.

2. Both of these leader had perceived high education in field of law. Difference being Gandhiji learnt law in Britain whereas Mandela in South Africa itself.

3. The main similarity was they both fought governmental injustice in South Africa.

4. They more or less had similar ideologies. Both had iron wills, amazing stubbornness and both were democracy believers.

5. Both of them were great reconcialators. When Mahatma Gandhi got his first case to fight in South Africa he made the two parties negotiate and case ended before actually going to the court. And when Mandela became President of his nation even after having tolerated so much he did not hated the white community. Instead his era of president was popularly called ‘Rainbow Motion’ , as he united them all.

6. Gandhiji and Mandela both believed in peace. When Mandela was president he said no to nuclear weapons to promote international peace.

7. Both of these great leaders are known as fathers of respective nations. Gandhiji is reffered as ‘bapu’ in India whereas his counterpart Mandela is known as Tata in south africa which also means father.

2. Both advocated non-violent means of protest. While Mahatma Gandhi advocated Satyagraha, Mandela was influenced by Gandhi and adopted his principles and teachings in forming the Afrikan National Party and also in his struggle.

3. Both the leaders led movements against discrimination. While Gandhi attained success in end discrimination of Indians in South Africa, Mandela fought against Apartheid (racial discrimination) against the native Africans.
