(3 +  \sqrt{2} )(3 -  \sqrt{2} ) \\  =  {3}^{2}  -  { \sqrt{2} }^{2}  \\  = 9 - 2 \\  = 7 \\ by \: the \: identity \:  {x}^{2}  -  {y}^{2}  = (x + y)(x - y)
