❏ Question:-

Simon buys 175 apples for R350,00. He then sells 14 dozen for R40,00 per dozen and the remaining apples for R2,00 per apple. What is the percentage of the profit he makes in 2 decimals?

❏ Solution:-

✏ Given:-

  • no. of apples = 175 pcs.
  • Total cost = 35,000 Rs
  • Selling prize of 14 dozen apples = 400 Rs/ dozen.
  • selling price of remaining apples = 200 Rs/pcs

✏ To Find:-

  • Profit Percentage = ?

Explanation :-

14 dozen = (14 × 12) pcs = 168pcs.

Selling prize of 14 dozen apples

=(14 × 4000) Rs.

=56000 Rs

• Remaining pcs of apples = (175-168) = 7 pcs.

Selling price of 7 pcs apples

= (7×200) Rs

=1400 Rs.

Total Selling Price

= (56000+1400) Rs

= 57400 Rs.

Profit Amount = (57400-35000) Rs. =22400 Rs.

Profit Percentage

= \dfrac{22400}{35000}\times100\%

= \dfrac{224\cancel{00}}{35\cancel{000}}\times10\cancel{0}\:\%

= \dfrac{224}{\cancel{35}}\times\cancel{10}\%

= \dfrac{\cancel{224}}{\cancel{7}}\times2\%

= 32\times2\%

= \boxed{\red{\large{64\%}}}

∴ Profit Percentage is = 64 %
