Mountain soil

These type of soils are found in Valley and Sloppy regions.

Soils found between altitude of about 2700 to 3000 meters

These soils are formed due to mechanical withering caused by snow, rain, temperature variation, etc.

It forms very thin layer of underdeveloped heterogeneous soil, whose properties changes with parent rock and climate.

The soils are very rich in humus but are deficient in potash, phosphorus and lime.

Suitable for plantation of tea, coffee, spices and tropical fruits like pine.

In India, these soil is found in hilly regions Jammu and Kashmir,Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal pradesh.

These soils occupy about 8% of the total land area of India.

Desert soil

Desert soils form in areas where the demand for water by the atmosphere (evaporation) and plants (transpiration) is much greater than precipitation.

Salts and other soluble minerals accumulate significantly because of the low precipitation.

Wind, serves as a major agent of erosion given the typically sparse groundcover of deserts.

Common Desert Soil Types: Aridisols and Entisols

Aridisols : These soils tend to have an upper horizon (or soil layer) poor in organic matter and often include deposits of salt, calcite and gypsum.

Entisols: Young soils under formation, developing. E.g. gravel plains or patches of sand dunes colonized by grasses or other plants.
