  • Simple past tense is used to talk about the things that took place in the past. For example, in the 1st sentence, "last week" suggests that the event took place in the past and hence we fill in the blank with the simple past tense of 'go' which is 'went'.
  • Simple present is used to talk about events that are are happening in the present or the ones that occur all the time. For example, in the second sentence, the word "always" tells us that the blank must be filled using the simple present tense of 'sleep' which is 'sleep' only.
  • Simple future tense is used to refer to thinks that will happen in the future. For example, in the 3rd sentence, "next year" indicates that the event will happen in the future and hence we use the simple future tense.
