Here is the Answer :
In general a name is given to each and every individual carbon atom based on it's bond formation !
If a Carbon is attached to one more carbon atom then it is generally called as Primary carbon, Primary refers to 1, It is denoted by 1° !
If a carbon is attached to 2 other carbons then it is generally called as Secondary carbon, Secondary means 2 here !!
It is denoted by 2° !
Like this names are given !
If the carbon is attached to 3 other carbons then the name is Tertiary Carbon and is denoted by 3° !
If the carbon is attached to 4 other carbons then the name is Quaternary Carbon and it is denoted by 4° !!
We know that a carbon can form at most 4 bonds, So we can't have 5 bonds ! And hence there will be no 5° Carbon ! These are the names given !!
So,
Primary carbon is the carbon attached to 1 carbon atom, and it is represented with 1°
And,
Secondary carbon atom is the carbon attached to or bonded to 2 carbon atoms ! and is represented with 2°
Here I am not considering Hydrogen and Functional groups !
This is the answer !
Hope you understand, Have a Great day !
Thanking you, Bunti 360 !!
