Answer -

Let's first understand BODMAS :-

  • B :- Brackets ( ) { } [ ]
  • O :- Of
  • D :- Division
  • M :- Multiplication
  • A :- Addition
  • S :- Subtraction

Applying BODMAS rule -

i) 17 × { 16 - ( 17 - 2 ) }

→ 17 × { 16 - ( 15 ) }

→ 17 × { 16 - 15 }

→ 17 × { 1 }

17

ii) 80 - { ( 25 - 8 ) + ( 40 - 23 ) }

→ 80 - { ( 17 ) + ( 17 ) }

→ 80 - { 17 + 17 }

→ 80 - { 34 }

→ 80 - 34

46

iii) ( 30 ÷ 6 ) ÷ { ( 6 × 12 ) ÷ 8 }

→ ( 5 ) ÷ { ( 72 ) ÷ 8 }

→ ( 5 ) ÷ { 9 }

5 ÷ 9

iv) { 240 ÷ { 5 ( 6 + 3 - 7 ) } + 17 × 2 + 4 }

→ { 240 ÷ { 5 ( 9 - 7 ) } + 17 × 2 + 4 }

→ { 240 ÷ { 5 ( 2 ) } + 17 × 2 + 4 }

→ { 240 ÷ 10 + 17 × 2 + 4 }

→ { 24 + 17 × 2 + 4 }

→ { 24 + 34 + 4 }

In solving all these problems we have followed BODMAS.

BODMAS rule states that in an expression containing multiple arithmetic operations , there is an order in which they are to be solved.

The order for solving them is provided by BODMAS. The order is as follows :

  • B which means simplification of brackets

  • O order or exponents

  • D for division

  • M for multiplication

  • A for addition

  • S for subtraction
