To simplify : 2\frac{1}{2} + 3\frac{5}{7} \times \frac{7}{13} - \frac{1}{3} \times 3

Solution :

  • To solve the above equation we will follow BODMAS rule.
  • It is the rule used to remember the order of operations to be followed while solving expressions in mathematics.
  • where,

                 $$\begin{array}{l} \\B= brackets\\\mathrm{O}=\text { order of powers or rules } \\\mathrm{D}=\text { Division } \\\mathrm{M}=\text { multiplication } \\\mathrm{A}=\text { addition } \\\mathrm{S}=\text { subtraction }\end{array}$$

  • According to above rule we will solve 2\frac{1}{2} + 3\frac{5}{7} \times \frac{7}{13} - \frac{1}{3} \times 3

               \frac{5}{2} + \frac{26}{7} \times \frac{7}{13} - 1 \\= \frac{5}{2} + 2- 1 \\= \frac{5 + 4 - 2}{2}\\= \frac{7}{2}

Hence on simplification we get \frac{7}{2}.
