Some useful tips related to this question :

» First, we should write all the mixed fractions in common fractions. For example 3¼ = 13/4 (4×3+1) and 3½ = 7/2 (2×3+1)

» In divide, do reciprocal (reverse the numerator and denominator) of the second fraction and change the divide sign into multiply.

» Always use DMAS rule, which means first do division, then multiplication, then addition and finally the subtraction.

» While doing addition and subtraction, find the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of the denominator.

» Suppose LCM is 12, then write 12 in denominator as given in the attachment. Now look the above equation and do this :

LCM ÷ denominators & quotient × numerators

⇒ 12 ÷ 4 = 3 and then 3 × 13 = 39.

So 39/12

⇒ 12 ÷ 6 = 2 and then 2 × 4 = 8.

So 8/12

⇒ 12 ÷ 4 = 3 and then 3 × 7 = 21.

So 21/12
