(x + y)(x - y) =  {x}^{2}  -  {y}^{2}  \\ (3 +  \sqrt{2} )(3 -  \sqrt{2} ) =  {3}^{2}  -  { \sqrt{2} }^{2}  \\  = 9 - 2 = 7
