( 3 +  \sqrt{5}   \: {)}^{2}  - ( {3 -  \sqrt{5}  \: )}^{2}  \\  = 9 + 5 + 6 \sqrt{5}  - (9 + 5 - 6 \sqrt{5} ) \\  = 14 + 6 \sqrt{5}  - 14 + 6 \sqrt{5}  \\  = 12 \sqrt{5}
