(3p -  {1})^{2}  - (3p - 2)(3p + 1) \\  \\ use \: ( {a - b)}^{2}  =  {a}^{2}  - 2ab +  {b}^{2}  \\  and \: expand \:  \\  \\  {(3p)}^{2}  - 2 \times 3p \times 1 +  {1}^{2}  \\  \\  {9p}^{2}  - 6p + 1 \\  \\ collect \: like \: terms \\  \\  {9p}^{2}  - 6p + 1 - ( {9p}^{2}  - 3p - 2)  \\  \\ remove \: bracket \: and \: change \: sign\\  \\  {9p}^{2}  - 6p + 1 -  {9p}^{2}  + 3p + 2 \\  \\ subtract \: the \: opposite \\  \\  - 6p + 1 + 3p + 2 \\  \\ collect \: like \: terms \\  \\  - 3p + 1 + 2 \\  \\ add \: the \: numbers \\  \\  - 3p + 3
