(3x² - 2) + (5x² + 5x - 1)

Remove the parenthesis. Keep in mind that when removing parenthesis, you have to keep a specific rule in mind : Positive × Positive = Positive ; Positive × Negative = Negative ; Negative × Negative = Positive. With that in mind, let's remove them!

3x² - 2 + 5x² + 5x -1

Combine like terms.

(3x² + 5x²) + (5x) + (-2 - 1) → Note that we've added parenthesis into this so that we could clearly distinguish our like terms.

Now, let's simplify.

8x² + 5x + (-3)

Remove the parenthesis.

8x² + 5x - 3
