The given question is

(4 + \sqrt{2} )(4 - \sqrt{2} )

we have to simplify this

By normal multiplication we get,

(4 \times 4) + ( \sqrt{2} \times 4) - ( \sqrt{2} \times 4) - ( \sqrt{2} \times \sqrt{2} )

(16) + 4 \sqrt{2} - 4 \sqrt{2} - 2

here + and - term of 4√2 gets cancelled, we get

(16 - 2) = 14.

Therefore the final answer is 14.
