Given:

(4 – 5) – (13 – 18 + 2).

What we have to do in this question ?

We have to simplify these numbers by opening the brackets.

Solving:

= (4 – 5) – (13 – 18 + 2)

= 4 - 5 - 13 + 18 - 2

(Here when we open the brackets we have to be very careful as there is a negative sign outside the bracket whenever we open a bracket with a negative sign outside we must make sure that we must change the sign of all the numbers inside that bracket. If there is a positive number we must make it negative if there is a negative number we must make it positive)

= - 1 - 13 + 18 - 2

= - 14 + 18 - 2

= - 16 + 18

= 2

Therefore, after simplifying we get the value as 2.

Some things to keep in mind while solving this type of problems:

  • Always make sure to change signs if there is a negative sign outside the bracket.

  • Always make sure that you do not change any sign if there is a positive sign outside the bracket.

  • Follow the BODMAS  rules while opening brackets.

  • Always keep the signs in mind do not forgot to add the negative sign if you added two negative numbers together.

  • Recheck your answer after simplification for calculation errors you found any correct them as soon as possible.

  • Practice more similar problems to improve your concept and understanding. Try increasing your speed to solve these types of problems.
